How much does shipping from China to Australia cost?
Sea freight rates change with shipping-line pricing and can vary weekly. Seasonal demand can also affect rates; our experience is that the second half of the year is often more expensive, but this is not a fixed rule. Clearance and local transport charges tend to be more stable. Contact us with your cargo type, dimensions, weight and destination for a current, itemised quote.
Should I choose a full container (FCL) or shared container (LCL)?
As a starting point, we often recommend considering FCL for around 50 cubic metres or more, especially for irregular cargo. Below around 40 cubic metres, LCL may make better use of space. For 40–50 cubic metres, we compare both options. The best choice depends on container size, usable capacity, cargo shape, weight and current rates. With LCL, an inspection involving other cargo in the same container can sometimes delay the shared shipment; FCL can also be inspected.
How long does sea freight from China to Australia take?
On some sailings to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, the sea leg is around 14 days. As a guide, China-side clearance and release may take around four days, and Australian port unloading around three days. Allow approximately 20–30 days for planning, depending on the sailing and cargo readiness, and confirm the final delivery schedule in your quote. Adelaide sailings may take around 10 days longer. Vessel delays, inspections, LCL handling and delivery location can extend these estimates.
Can you help with furniture, door and window packing or installation?
Send us product details, dimensions and packing photos before dispatch so we can review the proposed protection and handling arrangements. Packaging needs depend on the goods and journey. Timber packaging must meet applicable Australian biosecurity conditions. If you need installation in Australia, we can also help arrange personnel to attend your address; availability, scope and costs are confirmed separately.
What documents are needed for customs clearance?
Start with a packing list, commercial invoice and the consignee or company contact details. Depending on the goods and importer, the appointed customs broker may request further documents or identity verification. Where required for your shipment, we will explain whether a passport copy or a photo holding the passport is needed and how to provide it. Please do not upload identity documents through the website enquiry form.
Do you deliver throughout Australia?
Yes, we can arrange Australia-wide delivery. Regional and remote destinations may require longer lead times and additional driver or transport charges. Send us the exact address and postcode so we can confirm availability, access and the delivery cost before booking.
Can a container be delivered to my home or building site?
For residential deliveries, we usually arrange container unloading at a warehouse followed by delivery on a suitable vehicle. Direct container delivery depends on road access, space, local restrictions and safe handling arrangements. A building site with suitable access may be able to receive the container directly. We will agree the delivery method, unloading equipment, labour and container collection arrangements before dispatch.
What is included in your freight quote?
We itemise sea freight, China-side export clearance, Australian customs clearance, delivery and other applicable services. The quote distinguishes confirmed charges from estimates, exclusions and any costs payable if incurred, such as duties, GST, inspections, treatment, storage or container-related charges. Any additional services or costs are explained and agreed with you before we proceed.
What should I send for a quote?
Send the cargo description and materials, pickup city, destination postcode, quantity, dimensions, gross weight, ready date and available invoice and packing list. Let us know about timber packaging, residential access and any installation needs.
What costs should I confirm?
Ask for an itemised scope covering the agreed freight, handling, broker and coordination services, storage, delivery and installation. Confirm how duties, GST, inspection, treatment, port charges, demurrage and detention are handled, and which charges are excluded or payable if incurred.
Is the China loading warehouse always free?
Free use is subject to applicable conditions and the agreed shipment scope. Confirm eligibility, the included storage period, receiving and loading arrangements, and any handling, extended storage or other charges before sending goods.
Can you help with my first import?
Yes. We can help you gather shipment information, communicate with suppliers and understand the steps. Commodity-specific advice and customs declarations are coordinated with the relevant licensed broker or specialist.
